LETTER: Cooperstown Rotary Seeks Efforts To Aid

3-19-10

To the Editor:
On behalf of the Cooperstown Rotary Club, thank you to the many local individuals, families, organizations and businesses for the generous support you give to our fundraising efforts.
The advertising contributions, donations of goods and services, and the time volunteered by many non-club members, all have been vital in the success of AppleFest, Harvest Fest, Election Day Pancake Dinner, and the Rotary Yard Sale, our biggest community events.
It is through these fundraisers that our club is able to raise the money for donations to not-for-profit local organizations and charities.
In 2009 alone, Cooperstown Rotary Club allocated nearly $16,000 to local goodwill, including $6,000 to 17 different organizations at the end of 2009, including:  The Cooperstown Foodbank, the NENY Regional Foodbank, Springbrook, Jail Ministry of Otsego County, Opportunities for Otsego, Cooperstown Boys, Girls & Cub Scouts, Venture Crew, Youth I’nc, Safe Kids Coalition, Cooperstown PTO TREP$ Program, Cooperstown Volunteer Fire Department, CCS Friends of Music & Arts, CCS Girl’s Softball, Otsego Regional Cycling Advocates, and Grace Kull’s Well project.
In addition to cash contributions, 85 reusable market bags, most of which were filled with non-perishable food items donated by individuals within the club, were given to the Cooperstown Food Bank in early February 2010.
The Cooperstown Rotary Club is also thankful to Jim Kevlin (fellow Rotarian) and The Freeman’s Journal for being vigilant in promoting all local fundraising events with news space and bulletins, and in particular those by our club.
The Allocations Committee of the Cooperstown Rotary Club is accepting requests for Spring 2010 donations through March 23.  Please send requests to Cooperstown Rotary Club, PO Box 993, Cooperstown, NY 13326, or contact me at 547-9924
