SUNY HONORED: SUNY Oneonta has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the fourth year after 1,155 students did 51,000 hours of volunteer service through the college’s Center for Social Responsibility & Community.

CONCERTANTE: Oneonta Concert Association presents the young chamber music group Concertante at 8 p.m., Friday, March 26, at First United Methodist Church, corner of Church and Chestnut streets.

PHOTOS SOUGHT:  Photos of local women, past and present, are being sought for a “Women of Oneonta” exhibit the GOHS is planning this spring.  Call Katherine Bashaw, 432-0960, for details.

OPERA DIRECTOR:  Francesca Zambello has joined Glimmerglass Opera as general and artistic director, the top job.  She will replace Michael MacLeod after this season.

VALUED RELIC: The Otsego County Historical Society made the find of the day at the GOHS’ annual Postcard & Ephemera Saturday, March 13, at St. James Episcopal Church:  A rare 1840 tax abstract for Otsego County.

IN PAPERBACK:  “Night Navigation,” the novel by Ginnah Howard, Gilbertsville, has just been released in paperback, according to her publisher, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

WALK FOR MS: The National MS Society Upstate NY Chapter’s annual Oneonta Walk is Sunday, May 2, at Neahwa Park.


Hartwick College will host a concert in memory of Al Gallodoro at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 19 in the Anderson Theatre. Gallodoro, legendary master of saxophone and clarinet and longtime resident of Oneonta, passed away in October 2008. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the college in 2005.
