LETTER: Hage Goes, But Katz Remains

3-12-10

To the Editor:
The Village of Cooperstown is uniquely blessed with one of the finest pools of public servants in the region.
The only downside to this coming election is that Eric Hage – an exceptionally qualified trustee – is taking what I hope will only be a temporary but justifiable respite from elected office.
However, in addition to the coverage The Freeman’s Journal has offered over the last year, I would like to add that, beyond the newsprint, Jeff Katz has shown some of the strongest leadership I have seen in the county.
In this era of overburdened local tax bases, one of the few options to control costs while preserving essential services is to aggressively pursue exactly the types of initiatives Jeff has a record of researching, developing and executing.
Mr. Katz has not only faced the hard decisions, but also has a record of working to provide better choices.  From the summer concerts and Badger Park to advocacy for the Fire Department and Library, he has been proactive and informed.
Jeff Katz also has a history of providing frequent and forceful advocacy for village needs at the county level.  Although I myself live just beyond the village lines, like many people in the area, I am grateful to the people of Cooperstown.  Thank you for hosting so much of the economic, cultural and recreational vitality of the region.
You deserve the fine field of candidates you have before you to steward the resources you provide for the benefit of the surrounding community.
I am also grateful that Jeff Katz has been there to be a voice for the village and look forward to working with him in the spirit of municipal cooperation.
