To the Editor:
Your Feb. 19 article promoting consolidation of the town and city of Oneonta suggested that I supported it during my tenure as town supervisor from 1990 to 2007.
To clear the record: At no time during my town board tenure did I support city-town consolidation. Mayor David Brenner and I worked toward cooperation and shared services when they made sense for our respective taxpayers.
Consolidation of the city and town of Oneonta has become a plank in every new city mayor’s platform, at least in part, I think, so that the city can share its overhead with the town.
I commend the four town board members – Delameter, Quackenbush, Mirabito and Gravelin – for rebuffing the supervisor’s effort to start the process.
If town residents wanted to live in the city, they would.
