Cooperstown and Around

1-1-10

Yale-Owned
Clark Canvas
Spurs Lawsuit

A Van Gogh donated to Yale University by Stephen Carlton Clark is the focus of a dispute that could put the ownership of billions of dollars of art in doubt, the AP is reporting.
Pierre Konowaloff is suing Yale for return of “The Night Cafe,” owned by his industrialist great-grandfather, seized by the Bolsheviks and sold.
Clark, founder of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, eventually obtained it and donated it to the university in 1961.

CELEBRATE: New Year’s Eve celebrations range from Dance The Night Away at the Foothills Performing Arts Center to Bassett Healthcare’s annual gala at The Otesaga.  (See the Happenin’ Otsego calendar, A-7)

FINAL MASS:  The final mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sharon Springs, was held Sunday, Dec. 27.  The congregation is being absorbed into St. Thomas the Apostle, Cherry Valley, as part of a diocesan realignment.
