LETTER: Local Democratic Party’s ‘Chicanery’ Decried

To the Editor:
It came to my attention that, at the Republican caucus, a plot was put together that the Republican friends of Jeff Katz were going to nominate him for mayor on the Republican ticket.
Fortunately, this happening was leaked out. The loyal Republicans showed up in force, giving this group cold feet with shivers up their back. They didn’t have the marbles to pull this off.
This is the kind of antics that all of Jeff Katz’s backers stand for. If this is the kind of nonsense that you want the leadership of our village to be run by, a vote for Jeff Katz would be appropriate.
Soon after that caucus, the Republican chairman resigned from his post. This week the word is the past Republican leadership will be appointed trustee when Jeff Katz is voted in as mayor.
If this is true, it fits with the kind of chicanery that the Democratic Party has engaged in for the last eight years. Do we really want Jeff Katz as mayor?
There are two important things being worked on behind the scenes that will not see the light of day until after the election. One is paid parking on Main Street and the auxiliary streets. The second is to disband our EMS squad.
I understand that last year the ambulance squad had over 800 calls, attending our citizens in dire need. Our taxes already go to help pay for this service; we do not need to have a paid EMS service.
You better be thinking before voting for mayor. A vote for Joe Booan will put an end to all of these behind-the-scenes antics, costing our village residents more dollars out of our pockets.
As you read the tens of letters that are being written on behalf of Jeff Katz, be sure to put your thinking caps on. The citizens who are signing these letters may not necessarily be the ones writing them. Put your thinking cap on and read between the lines.
Voting for the candidate of your choice is an American tradition and a responsibility to all of the residents of the Village of Cooperstown. A vote for Joe Booan will open these doors once again to honest government.
For whatever reason the Cooperstown Fire department or at least part of their members no longer want to be involved with the EMS squad, it’s not really known why but a letter of endorsement to Mr. Katz from a prominent firefighter is one of the suggestions that I referred to in analyzing the letters being published in favor of Mr. Katz.
A vote for Joe Booan will stop all of this nonsense. Please vote for Joe Booan.

Editor’s Note:  Asked if he’d been offered the trustee position that would open up if Katz is elected mayor, former GOP chair Bill Waller said, “It hasn’t been offered.  I haven’t rejected it.  I haven’t accepted it.”
